Billie Holiday had a difficult childhood
Holiday suffered from her mother's absences
Holiday was sent to The House of the Good Shepherd for skipping school in 1925

RAPE & PROSTITION
December 24, 1926 came home to discover a neighbor Wilbur Rich, raping Billie. Rich was arrested
Billie went back to The House of the Good Shepherd for the rape incident for her protecting.
Holiday heard her first records of Louis Armstrong and Bessie Smith
Holiday and her mother moved to New York City in 1929
Billie was fourteen when her and her mother became prostitute.

Holiday name came from an actress name Billie Dove
1935 she had a small part in A Rhapsody of Negro Life.
In late 1930s Billie toured with count Basie and Artie Shaw

Billie wrote a song based in the line God Bless the Child and add music
God Bless the Child reach number 25 on the record charts in 1941
In 1976 God Bless the Child was added to the Grammy Hall of Fame

LEGAL TROUBLES
In 1947 Billie made a quarter of a million dollar in three years
May 16, 1947 Holiday was arrested for possession of narcotics in her New York apartment
May 27, 1948 Holiday played Carnegie Hall to a sold out crowd
Holiday stated she start using hard drugs in the early 1940s

LADY SINGS THE BLUE
Holiday health started deteriorate due to her heavy drinking, drugs and her abusive men
Her autobiography Lady Sings the Blues was written in 1956
In December 22, 1956, Billboard magazine reviewed Lady Sings the Blues, called it a worthy musical complement to her autobiography

DEATH
In early 1959 learn she cirrhosis of the livers
May 31, 1959 Billie was admitted to hospital for her suffering liver and heart disease
Billie was arrested in the hospital for possession of drugs
Billie died July 17, 1959 pulmonary edema and heart failure at the age 44
