ATP IN DEPTH

• It's a molecule that carries energy
• It's made from adenosine, and three phosphate groups
• Releases energy by breaking phosphate groups
• Most cell processes depend on it
• It's awesome for keeping you alive

WHAT ABOUT ADP?

• It's the result of ATP losing one phosphate group
• It's also a lower energy molecule
• It's equally important for the cycle to continue
• Becomes ATP again when a phosphate group is added

HOW IS THAT RELATED TO FOOD?

• Food is first digested (yumyum)
• Then it breaks into simpler molecules
• The molecules are then used to make ATP!

WHAT ARE CALORIES?

• Measures of energy in food
• Different foods have different amounts of calories
• And different amounts of ATP
• ATP is indirectly related to calories
