PRESENTATION OUTLINE

DORMANCY/ PLANT CLADOGRAM

DORMANCY

  • Period in an organism's life cycle when growth development, and (in animals) physical activity are temporary stopped.

Is a development process in which dormancy (sometimes a dormant state)is induced maintained broken.

ORGANIC SEED DORMANCY

  • Endogenous - embryo characteristics prevents germination-epicotyl, hypocotyl, radical.
  • Exogenous - characteristics of structure : seed coat, fruit walls, including endosperm or perisperm prevents germination.

TYPES OF SEED DORMACY

  • Physiological
  • Morphological
  • Morphophysiological
  • Physical
  • Physical & physiological
  • Chemical
  • Mechanical

PHYSIOLOGICAL DORMANCY

  • Nondeep
  • Intermediate
  • Deep

MORPHOLOGICAL DORMANCY

  • Morphology of embryo not developed
  • Temperate families-apiaceae, rununculaceae
  • Tropical families -- annonaceae, arecaceae, degeneriaceae, lactoridaceae, monimiaceae, myrsticaceae, winteraceae

MORPHOPHYSIOLOGICAL DORMANCY

  • Underdeveloped embryos
  • Embryo growth and dormancy break required
  • Embryo grows first than dormancy broken or both at the same time
  • Very worm, moist and cold stratification periods
  • Viburnum- epicotyl dormancy, warm for radical then cold for epicotyl
  • Fraxinus excelsior, magnolia cuminata

PHYSICAL DORMANCY

  • Present in 15 angiosperm families
  • Large embryos with food reserve in embryo not endosperm
