There are both pros and cons to this as we have both helped them survive and become extinct
The pros are is that some people have finally decided to step up and help this dying species.
The cons are is that we helped put them where they are. We hunted them down
We took their bodies for their fur coats so we could have our own fur tapestries or fur coats
