Making biofuels from algae to replace fossil fuels is good for the environment , but is very costly to make and takes up a lot of room. Never the less it is a potential solution for energy with some costs.

Biomass is how much everything in an ecosystem weighs without water.

Fossil fuels are oils, natural gases and coal. These were all once plants and animals that have over time turned into these forms of energy. They are non renewable and release dangerous amounts of greenhouse gases.

Biofuel is energy made from living things. It is cleaner for the environment and are renewable.

THE PROS OF ALGAE BIOFUELS

  • Algae can be grown anywhere with water
  • Its greenhouse gas emissions are 93 percent less than fossil fuels
  • Algae is not dependent on growing seasons
  • Algae is practically carbon-neutral
  • A final benefit to algae is that it leaves no waste materials

THE CONS OF ALGAL FUELS

  • Algal biofuels are easily degraded
  • They do not flow well at colder temperatures
  • Earth is lacking the phosphorus needed for mass algal fuel production
  • Machines and technology needed to transform it into energy are very costly
  • In places where algae is eaten as a vegetable, using it for fuel could cause food shortages.

Overall, biofuels are generally better for the environment, but require expensive machinery. This makes biofuels useful but at a great cost.
