2.
VOCABULARY
Momomer:small chemical unit that makes up a polymer
Polymer:molecule composed of many monomers
Carbohydrate:compound made up of carbon, and oxygen atoms
Monosaccharide:simple sugar molecule
Lipid:macromolecule made mostly from carbon and htdrogen atoms
3.
Untitled Slide
Nucleic acid:macromolecule containing hydrogen,oxygen,nitrogen,carbon,and phosphorus
Nucleotide:subunit of which nucleic acids are composed
Protein:macromolecule that contains carbon,hydrogen,oxygen,and nitrogen
Amino acid:compound wiyh an amino group on one end and a carboxyl group on yhe other end
4.
CARBON
Carbon is the basis of lofe on earth
Carbon bonds with,hydrogen, oxygen,phopherous, sulfer,ect.
Carbon poses the ability to bond with its self, allowing it to form chains
Carbon can form millions of complex chains.
5.
MACROMOLECULES
They are giant compounds that are found in cells.
They are made from thousand of smaller molicules.
Small monomers join to form polymers also called macromolecules.
6.
CARBOHYDRATES
Made of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen atoms.
Carbohydrates are used as a way to store excess sugar.
Starch is another form of carbohydrate.
The monomers in starch are sugar molicules.
7.
LIPIDS
They are made mostly from carbon and hydrogen atoms.
They can be used to store energy.
If there is only one carbon-carbon double bond, the acid is unsaturated.
They can contain unsaturated fatty acids.
8.
NUCLEIC ACIDS
They are polymers assembled from single monomers knows as nucleotides.
Nucleic acids store and transmit hereditary,or genetic, information.
Two kinds : Ribonucleic acid(RNA) and deoxyribonucleic acid(DNA)
9.
STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION
More than 20 amino aids are found in nature.
They are the primary structure of protein
Multi chain proteins are said to have a forth level of structure
