Animal species reside on a scale with one end is where the specialist are located. Specialists can live only in a narrow range of conditions: that include diet, climate, and camouflage.
Generalist can live in many different places, eat a variety of foods, and tolerate a wide range of environmental conditions. Flies, cockroaches, mice, white-‐tailed deer, black bears, coyotes, channel catfish, and humans are all generalist species.

Conformers are animals that allow some aspect of their internal physiology to vary along with environmental conditions.

A regulator is also known as an endotherm. A regulator uses internal control mechanisms to maintain the optimum temperature needed for its body to function. Mammals and birds are examples of regulators. They are often described as warm blooded because they maintain a constant body temperature. For example, if the climate around a regulator gets hotter, the animal can adjust its metabolism to lessen the need for heat production.
