  • Have a protein shell
  • Have DNA or RNA
  • Invade cells
  • Turn the cell into what is essentially a virus factory

  • Don’t need a host
  • Can live in extreme environments
  • Can be killed by antibiotics
  • Can live in extreme environments
  • Is a living thing

INNATE IMMUNE SYSTEM

  • Responds quickly and immediately to any external stimuli
  • Causes inflammation, rush of white blood cells, kills bacteria if it can catch it
  • White blood cells eat bacteria

ADAPTIVE IMMUNE SYSTEM

  • Recognizes non-self and not self
  • Antibodies float around cell, flag any foreign invaders, and kill them

PUBLIC HEALTH

  • Take care of the public, keep them safe and healthy
  • Surveillance, Risk Factor Identification, Intervention Evaluation, Implementation
