PRESENTATION OUTLINE

BIOMASS ENERGY SOURCE

BY: BRYCE SWEENEY

WHERE DOES THIS RESOURCE COME FROM?

  • Biomass can be found in anything on the surface of earth.
  • Anything that was alive for a short period of time.
  • It gets it's energy from the sun.
  • Is also found in garbage and is released by burning.

WHAT COUNTRY USES IT THE MOST?

  • The Philippines use the most biomass energy in the world.
  • It has a climate that supports rapid plant growth.

WHAT PERCENT OF THE UNITED STATES USES IT?

  • About 48 percent of the United States uses biomass as a source of fuel.
  • Out of all the states in the United States, Texas uses the most at 72 percent.

DISADVANTAGES OF USING BIOMASS AS AN ENERGY SOURCE

  • Expensive:This is due to having to take care of living things(plant, animals, etc.)
  • Inefficient:Ethanol, a type of biomass, is dramatically ineffective compared to gasoline.
  • Harmful to the Enviorment:Because biomass gives off harmful methane gasses.
  • Consumes more fuel:Biomass consumes more fuel than it creates.
  • More land needed:Because it is made of all natural resourses, it requires time to regrow.

IS IT EXPENSIVE TO PRODUCE?

  • Yes, it costs 3,000-4,000 dollars per kW.

WHAT EQUIPMENT MUST BE USED IN ORDER FOR US TO USE THIS RESOURCE?

  • Direct fire combustion systems
  • Steam turbine, boiler, generator
  • Pumps, fans, cooling tower, condenser, etc.
  • These are the pieces of equipment used when making biomass electricity.

HOW IS BIOMASS PRODUCED?

  • First, direct combustion systems feed the material into a furnious.
  • During this time the material is burned with extreme heat to cause the water to steam.
  • After this process is done, the energy created by this process is complete.
  • That is how biomass energy is produced.

HOW IS BIOMASS ENERGY USED?

  • It is used to heat buildings as well as water.
  • It can also be converted into liquid fuel.

ADVANTAGES OF USING BIOMASS ELECTRICITY

  • There are no harmful emissions given off.
  • It is environmentally friendly.
  • It's a renewable resourse.
  • Shells reduce the dependency on fossil fuels.

POLLUTION

  • Thinning the ozone layer.
  • Causing sickness in human living in densely populated areas.
  • Destroying natural wonders and animals.
  • Causing the air to more toxic than it should be.
  • These are just a few of the many facts about pollution and it's effects on our world.
