This August my family and I vacationed in Acadia National Park. The park is located outside of Bar Harbor, Maine. It is particularly beautiful to visit, because it is part of two biomes: deciduous forest and marine. We learned many interesting facts about Acadia.

LOCATION OF ACADIA NATIONAL PARK

Acadia National Park is located on the Atlantic coast in northeastern Maine. It's only an hour away from the Canadian border.

Deciduous Forest

Trees lose their leaves.
Moderate temperatures & rainfall
Large variety of animals & plants

Acadia National Park is a deciduous forest, because it has many species of trees that lose their leaves in the autumn. It also has moderate temperatures and heavy rainfall. This means that many different plants and animals can thrive in the forests of Acadia National Park.

Temperate Range in Acadia National Park

The average high temperatures in winter are in the low 30s and in the upper 70s in summer. This makes Acadia National Park temperate, not too hot and not too cold -- just right for many plants and animals.

Average Rainfall totals

The rainiest seasons are spring and fall. Summer is the driest season.

Wildlife

Moose live in Acadia National Park.

Birch Trees

Birch trees are deciduous and are found all over Acadia.

Wild blueberry bushes grow everywhere in the forest.

Marine Biome

Since Acadia National Park is on the Atlantic coast, it also has a marine biome. On the rocky coast, you will see gray seals lounging in the sun on the rocks.

Arctic Terns

Arctic terns make their home in both deciduous forest and marine biomes. They spend most of their time living on the Atlantic Ocean looking for fish, but they nest in the forests of Acadia.

Tidal Pools

My family and I got to explore tidal pools at Acadia with a park ranger. Along the shore, you will find sea urchins, mussels, sea stars and many types of sea plants.

Threat to Biomes at Acadia

Heavy particulate matter from power plants in the Midwest causes acid rain.
