1.TROPICAL RAINFOREST

  • Average rainfall is 50-260 inches
  • Temperature is 68-93 F
  • Located in Southeast Asia and west Africa and pacific islands
  • Animals- vampire bat, toucans, eagle, and linns sloth
  • Plants- strangler figs, kapok tree, durian
  • Home to half of the plant & animal species

2.SAVANNA

  • Average rainfall is between 10-30 inches
  • Regular temperature is 68-86 F
  • Location is Africa,Australia, South America
  • Animals- elephant, zebras,lions,gazelles
  • Plants- lemon grass, elephant grass, Rhodes grass
  • Soil types are very diverse in the savanna

3.TAIGA

  • Average rainfall is 12-33 inches yearly
  • Average temperature is 26-50 F
  • Located in Europe, Canada, Alaska, Russia, North America
  • Animals- owls, Eagles, moose, rodents
  • Plants- hemlock, evergreens, white spruce, coniferous trees
  • Largest terrestrial biome and located below the tundra biome

4.TUNDRA

  • Total rainfall 6-10 inches (melted snow)
  • Average temperature10-20 F
  • Located Alaska, Russia, Siberia, Scandinavia
  • Animals- polar bear,snowy owl,artic fox, caribou, musk ox
  • Plants- artic moss, bearberry, caribou moss, diamond leaf willow
  • Lowest biotic, diversity, coldest and treeless

5.DESERT

  • Average rainfall 250 mm yearly
  • Temperature is 3.9-38 C
  • Located Africa,Asia,Middle East, North America
  • Animals- armadillo lizard, cactus wren,thorny devil,coyote
  • Plants- cati,short grasses,small bushes,
  • Hot and dry days but cold at night

6.TEMPERATE GRASSLANDS

  • Average rainfall 10-35 inches yearly
  • Temperature -40F winter 100F summer
  • Located Africa, Eurasia, South America, North America
  • Animals- bison, coyotes, badgers,prairie dogs
  • Plants- trees, large shrubs, grasses
  • Rainfalls usually in late spring and early summers

7.TEMPERATE DECIDUOUS FOREST

  • Yearly rainfall is 30-60 inches
  • Average temperature 50 F
  • Located Europe,North America, Asia, Russia
  • Animals- Hawks, red foxes, raccoons, white-tailed deer
  • Plants- lady fern, white oak, white birch, carpet moss
  • Soil is rich, abundant moisture, warm growing seasons

8.TEMPERATE EVERGREEN FOREST

  • Yearly rainfall 200 cm or more
  • Average temperature 15-30 C
  • Located Europe,North America, Asia,South America
  • Animals- owls, bears, elk, squirrel, Eagles, raven
  • Plants- shrubs, oak, maple, elm
  • Retains green all year round

9.PONDS AND LAKES

  • Yearly rainfall 25-60 inches
  • Temperature 4C bottom 22C top
  • Located scattered throughout the earth
  • Animals- fish, tadpoles, ducks, insects
  • Plants- algae, large leaved pondweed, aquatic plants
  • Formed by remnants of blocked rivers & glaciers

10.STREAMS AND RIVERS

  • Yearly rainfall 50-88 cm
  • Temperature 10-35 C
  • Located almost everywhere
  • Animals- trout, salmon, frogs, snakes
  • Plants- water lilies, seaweed, algae
  • All rivers and streams will run into an ocean

11.WETLANDS

  • Yearly rainfall 1750-2000 cm
  • Temperature -58-122 F
  • Located cay creek, Chatham county, JF city park
  • Animals- birds, fish, reptiles, mammals
  • Plants- live oak, wire grass, salt wort, black mangrove
  • Provides habitats for a wide variety and number of plants and animals

12.OCEANS

  • Yearly rainfall 5.56-101 inches
  • Temperature 71.3-85.6 F
  • Located around continents
  • Animals- Dolphins, oysters plankton, jellyfish
  • Plants- kelp, coral, seaweed, red algae
  • Can extend in some places down to depths of several miles or kilometers

13.CORAL REEFS

  • Yearly rainfall 250-1500 mm
  • Temperature 61-86 F
  • Located Australia, Central America, Red Sea, Hawaii
  • Animals- sea turtles, seas snakes, crustaceans, fish
  • Plants- seaweed, aquatic plants, grasses
  • Richest habitats on the planet and are homes to countless animals species

14.ESTUARIES

  • Yearly rainfall 57 mm
  • Temperature 51 F
  • Located. Found along the coast
  • Animals-mud crabs,oysters, fish, migratory birds
  • Plants-spike grass,aquatic grass, smooth cordgrass
  • Bodies of water when fresh water meets salty ocean water
