BY:BROOKE, JOANNA, AND OMARI

Overview On Glucose
Glucose is a simple sugar that is an essential energy source for living organisms. Glucose is also a component of many carbohydrates.

Energy
Carbohydrates are broken down into glucose(sugar) which then gives your body the energy that it needs.

Carbohydrates
Function- To provide energy for the body after being transformed into glucose(sugar) . (Primarily for the brain and nervous system.)
Where- Carbohydrates are found in most foods
Structure- classified into three groups. Monosaccharide: simple sugars.
Oligosaccharide: compounded sugars that contain 2 to 10 of the same or different monosaccharide.
Polysaccharides: compounded sugars the contain 10 or more molecules of monosaccharide.

Proteins
Function- functioning antibodies in red blood cells to resist infection
Where- Found in high quality protein foods such as meat, poultry, seafood, nuts, eggs and soy products.
Structure- globular proteins: compact and sphere in shape. Fibrous proteins: long in width and not dissolvable

Lipids
Function- Storing energy, signaling, and acting as structural factors of cell membranes
Where- Found in body in the form of oils & fats
Structure- there is no common structure for lipids. Although the most common ones are fats and oils (fatty acids)
