PRESENTATION OUTLINE

RAINFOREST BIOSPHERE

My Energy Sources

  • Solar Energy: because, it is the source of energy for all living things.
  • Hydroelectric Energy: because, my biome already has a river so I can use it for my electric energy.

THE NONLIVING ELEMENTS

  • Air - all living things need air to breathe
  • Sun - it is the source of a food web/chain
  • Soil - most plants need it to grow
  • Water - very important source of life for everything

METAMORPHOSIS (COMPLETE & INCOMPLETE)

  • Definition: the change in form that some insects go through in their life cycle.
  • Complete Metamorphosis: when insects go through a change in their life cycle in which they do NOT look like their immature self AT ALL.
  • Examples: a butterfly, a beetle, a bee, an ant
  • Incomplete Metamorphosis: when an insects morphs but looks like its mature self without wings ( have NOT fully developed but have started to look like their adult self. )
  • Examples: a dragonfly, a preying mantis, a grasshopper, a cockroach

INHERITED TRAITS AND LEARNED BEHAVIORS

  • Definition of INHERITED TRAITS: you are born with it; it is in your genes
  • Definition of LEARNED BEHAVIOR: you have to learn it; not a natural trait

AdAPTATIONS

  • What does it do? Their adaptations help them thrive in their environment because, they get protection from it and it is meant to help them survive.
  • Green Anaconda -camouflage
  • Tennessee Warbler -lives in open areas
  • Monarch -warning coloration
  • Orchid -does not need soil to grow
  • Worms -each segment on its body has setae (bristly hairs) for grip when it is underground

ENERGY

  • What is the source of energy for all organisms? The sun is the source of energy for all organisms.
  • How is this energy transferred between organisms? It is transferred between organisms by eating.
  • How is it represented on a food chain/web? The arrows show the flow of energy from the sun to another organism.

What Happens in a Food Chain/Web if an Organism is Removed?

  • What happens in a food web? In a food web, if an organism is removed, its predator will all go for their second food source causing the second food source's population to decrease.
  • What happens in a food chain? In a food chain, if an organism is removed, its predator would die and the food it ate, would increase.

HUMAN EFFECTS

  • Negative Effects = producing waste, damaging habitats, and over hunting
  • Positive Effects = making nature preserves
