The people of Hong Kong are amazed to see the beautiful blue algae growing along the coastline.This algae is called Noctiluca Scintillans or sea sparkle. This amazing site is not harmful to humans but can cause quite a pickle for the ocean. While not harmful in small groups,in a group as big as this, problems can accrue.
These plants cover the ocean surface,blocking out sunlight.This will cause ocean plants to die,which will affect both human and marine life. Most of the worlds air comes from these tiny plants. Without them these areas will be what experts call dead zones, where nothing can survive. Unfortunately these dead zones already cover 95,000 Sg. mi.! Luckily these plants do not last long due to loss of nutrition.
