MAJOR CHARATERISTICS

  • This species gets its name from the ruff of long, thick fur that runs from the ears to under the chin
  • The black & white ruffed lemur is black, white, and a darkish brown color
  • 4 feet long, around 7-10 pounds
  • Silky fur

PHYSICAL ADAPTATIONS

  • Lemurs use their teeth, rather than their hands or feet, to pick up food.
  • The black & white ruffed lemur's fur helps it camouflage itself in the wild so predators don't hurt it.

BEHAVIORAL ADAPTATIONS

  • Ruffed lemurs are arboreal, meaning they spend most of their time in the trees.
  • Black and white lemurs have a very loud call that can be described as a “roar”.
  • They live in groups that vary in size from 2 to 15 or more. Larger groups may break into subgroups
