Time Line on black death ( pandemic spread)

  • 1334- Plauge occurs in Constantinpole
  • 1339-1346 - The famine occurs. This goes on for seven years.
  • 1347-The Black Plague spreads through Western Europe.
  • 1348- Plague reaches Germany and France.
  • 1349-1/3 - of the population in Western Europe was dead from the plague.
  • 1350- It reaches London
  • 1351 - The plague reaches Russia
  • June 1665-6 137 people die by June
  • July 1665 -17,036 people die by July
  • August 1665 - 31,159 people

The origins of the Black Death are contested?

  • There are different theories on where that black death ...
  • People have theory that the Black Death was spread by fleas that have bitten rats.

The effects of the Black Plague

  • The deaths of the Black Death were so severe that it took Europe 6 generations to get there population back.
  • The most obvious effect of the Black Death was that there was need for peasants to work the land and work for the Kings, but the peasants did not agree so they demanded higher wages.

What effect did this have on the churches?

  • People were starting to get really depressed and gave up caring about religion,of all types.
  • Also, many priests, monks and nuns had died. This made people believe that the lifestyle of the priests had made God angry....

INFLUENZA....

  • Highly contagious.
  • Can lead to death...
  • Spread by sneezing or even contact with other people.
  • Flu stays with you for a couple of weeks, unlike the normal cold.
  • 21.5 million lost.

BLACK DEATH...

  • Highly contagious, had to stay 3 feet away from another person
  • Leads to death easily.
  • Spread by sneezing and spreads at terrifying speed.
  • When you get the 'flu' your life is at the risk of ending.
  • Between 50-70 million dead (about one-third of Europe's population on average)
