BLACK HOLES
BY: JUSTIN ARMENTA, DANIEL MARTINEZ, JACK BARDSLEY, & TAKEVIA BOLTON
2.
WHAT ARE BLACK HOLES?
A black hole is a point in space that is infinitely small
Because it is infinitely small it is also infinitely dense
The large amount of mass within it causes a strong gravitational pull
Black holes are thought to be the center of most galaxies
3.
WHY BLACK HOLES ARE BLACK
Black holes has such a strong gravitational pull that light can't escape
The gravity around them causes time to be altered as well as matter
If an object is near a black hole it will spiral towards it
After it reaches the center it joins the infinitely small mass in the middle
4.
HISTORY OF THE BLACK HOLE
John Mitchell suggested the modern theory of black holes
He wrote it in a letter in 1783
It wasn't until 1915 that black holes were proven with real evidence
John Wheeler coined the phrase "black hole" in 1967
