• Began in China and Inner Asia
• 1347- Kipchak army attacks Crimea
• Flung infected corpses into the town
• Italy, Spain, England, France: 1348

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS?

• Fever
• Trembling
• Sweating
• Buboes (spots where dead blood builds up)
• 2/3 of victims died within 4 days

HOW DID IT SPREAD?

• Fleabite transmits common plague
• Fleas on black rat bites human
• Fleas migrate on humans for a few weeks
• Bacteria is spread to everyone the flea bites

HOW DID PEOPLE AVOID IT?

• Plague doctors wore special robes
• Certain spices 'purified air'
• Sticks to avoid contact with patients
