THE ORGIN

  • A black widow is known as a latrodectus
  • The females have the hourglass on the stomach
  • Males are 1/2 the size of females
  • The female spider eats the male spider after mating
  • That's where the name black widow comes from

WHERE THEY LIVE

  • They live in North America, South America, Austrila, Japan, Africa
  • India, China, Bahamas, etc.
  • They are considered here in North America the most venomous spiders
  • Black widows can live up to one through three years
  • They are about the size of a paper clip

THE VENOM OF A BLACK WIDOW

  • One bite of a black widow can be fatal
  • If you are a small child or the elderly
  • It's venom is reported to be fifteen times stronger than a rattlesnake's
  • For humans, these bites can cause muscle aches, nausea, and
  • Paralysis in the diaphram which can cause breathing difficulties

MORE FACTS

  • The fatality from a black widow is rare
  • For most people, the bite doesn't affect them
  • Females can make a cacoon that holds hundreds of eggs
  • These spiders spin large webs that could trap their prey
  • Their diet includes flies, mosquitoes, grasshoppers, beetles, etc.
