LANGUAGES
The blang language belongs to the Palaung - Wa branch of the Mon-Khmer family of languages.
Within the Palaung -Wa branch, blang belongs to the Waic subgroup
That contains the language Was and Lawa
Two systems of writing based on the Latin alphabet have been developed and they are
Totham is the xishaungbanna and tolek from Dehong and Linchang.

HISTORY
Chinese ethnographers identify the Blangs as descendants of tribes
They lived in the Lancang river valley during ancient times
4.
CULTURE
Traditionally the Blangs considered teeth blackened
They did this by chewing betel nuts, it was a beauty to them.
Women dressed in jackets with black skirts
The men had tattoos on their torso or their stomach.
Their turbans were either made of black or white fabric.

THE WAY THEY LIVED
They usually divided into two small clans, each owned their own land
Their houses were two stories, 1st stories was for food and stables
The second was for their family, and their chimney was in the middle of it
Every blang town had there own cemetery's, they buried the deceased
And cremated the ones who's died of unnatural causes.

TRADITION
The Blangs seek spouses outside their own clans and practice monogamy.
mainly parental interference, young Blangs are fairly free to choose marriage partners.
Most traditional festivals of the Blang nationality are related to religious activities,
the most characteristics festivals among them are Guonian Festival and Close the Door Festival, etc.
There were almost no schools in the Blang areas before 1949
