BLOOD BORNE DISEASE

  • A blood borne disease is caused when blood borne pathogens enter the
  • blood or any body fluid.
  • Blood borne disease is spread when infection enters the blood by a
  • crack, scratch, or cut in the skin.
  • Usually through blood to blood contact.

HCV Hepatitis C

  • HCV is a blood borne disease or virus that attack the liver.
  • Most HCV infection is transmitted through dirty needles from a drug abuser.
  • 85% of people with HCV aren't aware at first and don't treat it in time,
  • This leads to liver failure. Which happened once symptoms occur.
  • Symptoms don't show right away which cause the infection to be extensive.

STATISTICS

  • Up to 4% of infants born to HCV infected mothers become infected.
  • A 4% of people contract HCV through sexual intercourse without the use
  • of a condom.
  • 8000 to 10000 deaths a year due to the HCV infection.
