BLOOD SPATTER PATTERNS

Arterial spurting
This pattern happens when blood leaves the body under pressure from an injured artery

Back Spatter
When blood is aimed back towards whatever caused the spatter

Cast-Off Pattern
A pattern made when blood flies off of a moving object.

Example

High-Velocity Impact Spatter
A pattern caused by a high speed impact with velocity at 100 ft per second.
Ex: Gunshot

Medium-Velocity Impact Spatter
A pattern caused by a medium speed impact with velocity at 25 ft per second.
Ex: beating or stabbing

Low-Velocity Impact Spatter
A pattern caused by a low speed impact with velocity at 5 ft per second.
Ex: falling

Passive Drop
Blood stains created by a bleeding wound

Swipe Pattern
When an object with blood on it wipes against an unstained surface

Transfers/Contact pattern
When a bloody surface comes into contact with a non bloody surface and leaves a recognizable image
