7 Body systems

Body systems are several organs working together to complete a task.

circulatory system

  • a transport system 
  • made up of blood, blood vessels, and a heart
  • circulates blood throughout the body
  • arteries, veins, and capillaries are parts in it

skeletal system

  • provides a framework the supports the body  
  • helps the animal move
  • protects internal organs
  • produces blood cells
  • contains bone and cartilage

muscular system

  • allows us to move around against gravity
  • contains muscles, heart, stomach, and tendons
  • muscles are bundles of cells and fiber
  • muscles only pull, they never push
  • there are 630 muscles in your body

nervous system

  • made up of your brain, spinal cord, and nerves
  • controls what you do 
  • nerves send impulses to your brain
  • contains the PNS and CNS
  • the brain and the spinal cord control all the body's motion 

digestive system

  • a group of organs that break down the food animals eat
  • two kinds of digestion: mechanical and chemical
  • with each step, food is broken down further
  • herbivores consume only plants
  • carnivores eat only meat

RESPIRATORY system

  • the system that helps you breathe
  • the lungs and the diaphragm are in it
  • oxygen is taken into the body and exchanged for CO2
  • carbon dioxide is forced out
  • the trachea and the bronchi help yo breathe, too

excretory system

  • excrete mean to get rid of
  • gets rid of wastes and toxic
  • 60% of your body is made of water
  • consists of the liver, the skin, and the kidney
  • helps keep the salt level in your body right
