WHERE?

Bogs can be found in North America, Europe, and Asia.

CLIMATE

  • Bogs can be humid with lots of moisture, or they can be quite cold and snowy.
  • The temperature can be lukewarm or 30 degrees and below.

LABRADOR TEA

NATIVE PLANT

ADAPTATIONS

  • It has fuzzy leaves.
  • Poisons and paralyzes predators when eaten.
  • Grows despite growing by wildfires.
  • It grows in tundra.

SPHAGNUM MOSS

ADAPTATIONS

  • Found in wet and muddy areas with a low pH soil.
  • Does not grow in areas that contain lime.
  • Light green, yellow, pink, deep red, and brown leaves.
  • When dried, it is used for fires

EASTERN NEWT

NATIVE ANIMAL

ADAPTATIONS

  • They have toxic skin that makes predators avoid them and protects them from being eaten.
  • Adults vary from olive green to brown, black spots, a yellow belly, and a flattened tail.
  • Active under water but can hibernate on land if pond dries up.
  • Vary from 2.2 to 5.5 inches long.

MOOSE

NATIVE ANIMAL

ADAPTATIONS

  • Male moose have antlers to fight other male moose when fighting over a mate.
  • They have thick, dark brown fur that makes them warmer in the cold weather.
  • Moose have hooved feet to make it easier for them to walk a lot.

COOPERATION

BEES ARE ATTRACTED TO LABRADOR TEA, ALTHOUGH IT IS SAID TO BE A BIT POISONOUS.

COOPERATION

SPHAGNUM MOSS CAN HOLD SEVERAL MOOSE WHEN THEY ARE NOT IN THE WATER.

COMPETITION

IF EASTERN NEWTS ARE EATEN, THE PREDATOR GETS POISONED AND DIES.

COMPETITION

MOOSE FIGHT WITH EACH OTHER USING THEIR ANTLERS AS WEAPONS.

CLIMATE CHANGE

CLIMATE CHANGE CAN CAUSE LIGHTNING WHICH CAUSES FOREST FIRES.

Temperature:
The temperature is normally a high of 30 degrees, although during the summer, the high is normally 15 degrees. There are other types of bogs with warmer temperatures as well.
