UNICAMERAL BONE CYST

A BENIGN BONE TUMOR

CAUSES

  • No known cause
  • May arise out of abnormal pockets of synovial tissue that surround joints

SYMPTOMS

  • No symptoms
  • May notice a small, painless bump if cyst enlarges
  • May weaken a bone and break the bone

CHONDROBLASTOMA

A RARE TYPE OF BENIGN TUMOR THAT DEVELOPS AT ENDS OF LONG BONES

CAUSES

  • No known cause
  • Thought to arise from cartilaginous plates in bones near joints

SYMPTOMS

  • Pain
  • Joint stiffness
  • Muscular atrophy
  • A limp

Hypophosphatasia

AN INHERITED DISORDER THAT AFFECTS THE PROCESS OF MINERALIZATION

CAUSES

  • Molecular defect in the gene coding process
  • Inherited

SYMPTOMS

  • Premature loss of baby teeth
  • Short limbs, odd chest shape, and soft skull bones
  • Bones become weak and soft with age

KLIPPEL-FEIL SYNDROME

FUSION OF TWO OR MORE SPINAL BONES IN THE NECK

CAUSES

  • Defect of the formation of the cervical spine

SYMPTOMS

  • Short neck
  • Low hairline at the back of the neck
  • Limited mobility of the upper spine

Craniosynostosis

A BIRTH DEFECT THAT CAUSES ONE OR MORE SUTURES TO CLOSE UP EARLY

CAUSES

  • Causes unknown
  • Hereditary

SYMPTOMS

  • Misshapen head
  • Slow or no growth of the head
  • Disappearing fontanels
  • Development of hard ridge on sutures
  • Increased pressure
