TYPES OF FRACTURES

  • Stress
  • Simple
  • Impacted
  • Comminuted
  • Compound

STRESS FRACTURE

  • Tiny cracks in a bone
  • Caused by repetitive application of force
  • Can also arise from weakened bone

SIMPLE FRACTURE

  • Causes little or no damage to soft tissues
  • Broken bone does not pierce the the skin

IMPACTED FRACTURES

  • one broken end is wedged into the other broken end

COMMINUTED FRACTURES

  • the bone is splintered or fragmented

COMPOUND FRACTURES

  • bone either pierces the skin or communicates with an open wound

GREENSTICK FRACTURE

  • soft bone in which the bone bends and partially breaks
