It's October 5th,1818 and nine year old Abraham and his eleven year old sister Sarah are crying on the wooden steps outside their wooden home. They just found out that their mom, Nancy Hanks Lincoln is ill and dying with the disease known as "milk sickness". She will soon die. Even before this, Lincoln's family has been trying to survive in their little home in Indiana. The tragic accident with his mom leaves him troubled and worried about his place on earth.
The day is January 12th, 1848 Lincoln is almost thirty-nine years old. After lost of hard work and preparation Lincoln finally reached his life goal: he was elected into the U.S. House of Representatives. When your elected into that position your supposed to play it safe. But Lincoln did the opposite of that. He performed a speech that would attack on the party that controls the congress and the president James K. Polk. His speech was about slave owning and how it was unjust, he was making a stand against the congress.
November 2ed, 1858 was one of the days Lincoln changed forever. On this day Lincoln was defeated by Stephen A. Douglas for Illinois senator. Douglas supported slavery, Lincoln did not. But a new political party, the Republicans, nominated Lincoln for U.S. Senate and he accepted the nomination with his famous "House Divided" speech that was turn into a Bible passage. (Matthew 12:25)
The Civil war started before dawn on April 18th, 1861 and the government of South Carolina attacked the U.S. Troops by keeping them hostage in an island fort.
On July 21st, 1861 the first battle of the Civil War ends. The Union was defeated and that put Lincoln in a difficult place. He had to find a way to win he war.
On November 19th, 1863 Lincoln has a good idea. He believes, as he should, that the soldiers that died deserved a proper grave. He did just that, he dedicated a grave site to them. It was a true turning point for the war.
On April 14th 1865 less than a week after Lee's surrender Lincoln went to Fords Theatre to see the comedy play "Our American Cousin". There a desperate Confederate, John Wilkes Booth, assassinates Lincoln.
