Every year, the Children’s Book Council of Australia celebrates books by looking at a number of books that have been written by Australian authors.

Book Week Theme

A different theme is chosen each year. Teachers and librarians build displays and complete activities around this theme and the books that have been shortlisted.

Categories

* Picture Books: Younger and older readers
* Early Childhood: Preschool, Kindy, Years 1 and 2
* Younger Reader: Primary students who read independently
* Older Reader: High School students able to cope with challenging themes
* Eve Pownall Award for Information Books: Non-fiction and factual books
* New Illustrators: Usually Picture Books
