How They Started

  • Mining towns that would pop up over night
  • Some would be there for a couple days, others became towns.

Transportation

  • People would ride the Transcontinental railroad to the towns.
  • They would work the whole day and ride the train back.
  • They would need the transportation not just for arriving there but for bringing gold and minerals to the East

People

  • Men would usually mine for the the different minerals. They were usually gold, silver, and oil.
  • Woman had a big part in the towns, they would set up resturaunts and shops to cloth and feed the miners.

Life in the Boom Towns

  • There were few people that were not rich.
  • There were some that became rich off of a "strike".
  • They would have to deal with frequent explosions, cave ins, fires, extremely hot temperatures, and dusty air.
