Boomtowns During the klondike goldrush

A boomtown is a place where there is rapid economic growth or were the population increases rapidly.

Skagway, Alaska was the closest salt water port to Yukon. It quickly became a boomtown as it filled with miners.

Klondike was where the gold rush actually happened. As more and more people found gold the cities economy grew.

In the Klondike boomtown, living conditions were tough. in the winter the settlers had to endure seven months of cold, darkness, disease, and isolation.

When gold was found else were in Alaska most of the inhabitants of Skagway and klondike left. the population quickly decreased and only a few thousand people remained.
