WHEN AND WHERE

  • 2 Cornish villages were affected
  • Boscastle and Crackington Haven
  • It was August 16th 2004
  • The strongest flow was from 5 to 6pm
  • Hurricane Lili caused flooding in 1996

Warm air picked up moisture due to heat in the Atlantic. It travelled to Cornish sea. The moisture in the atmosphere cooled creating big bands of rain clouds.

EFFECTS

  • Tourism income would be lost
  • There were lots of insurance claims
  • Services were very quick to act
  • Over 1000 people lost homes and cars
  • Habitats lost for wildlife

Prince Charles paid a lot of
money for the flood. The Environment Agency had a project to increase flood defences. The Dep. Head of the UK visited the emergency sevices in days following the disaster
