PRESENTATION OUTLINE

BOUNCY BALL EXPERIMENT

BY KAYA HART

PROBLEM

  • Which bouncy ball will bounce higher when there are small changes in size?

HYPOTHESIS

  • If we increase the size of a bouncy ball then bounce will increase as well.

MATERIALS

  • 1 2cm red bouncy ball
  • 1 2.7 cm dark green bouncy ball
  • 1 2.9 cm light green bouncy ball
  • 1 meter stick
  • 1 iPad

PROCEDURE

  • 1.) Drop all bouncy balls from the same heights and use the same force (none).
  • 2.) Test all bouncy balls again using the same procedure as trial one.
  • 3.) Test all again following previous procedure.
  • 4.) Follow the same procedure while testing all bouncy balls one last time.

PROCEDURE TABLE

TABLE INFORMATION

  • I.V. Bouncy ball
  • D.V. Height
  • Control group: NONE
  • Constants: Height, Force applied, Steady ground

BOUNCY BALL AVERAGE HEIGHT

CONCLUSION PART 1: WAS THE HYPOTHESIS SUPPORTED

  • No, the hypothesis was not supported. This was due to the fact that we thought that a bigger ball would create a higher bounce. The real result was that the smaller the ball created a higher bounce.

CONCLUSION PART 2: FLAWS

  • One main flaw in our experiment was that we did not have a control group. This was because due to the fact that you cannot control the height of the bounce for each ball.

CONCLUSION PART 3: IMPROVEMENTS

  • Next time we can improve the experiment by adding in more trials and more bouncy balls to get more varied results.

RESULT

  • Our result was that the smaller bouncy ball created the highest bounce.
