BOUNDARIES

  • They are important because they determine where you start and end.
  • They also determine where the other person starts and ends.
  • People can become angry and hurt when boundaries are crossed!

Purpose of Boundaries

  • to protect and take care of ourselves
  • let people know what you think is acceptable

TYPES OF BOUNDARIES

  • Physical
  • Personal
  • Emotional

Physical Boundaries

  • The area around a person (generally 2 to 3 feet is good)
  • Respect personal space including touching!

  • Beliefs and values
  • Family and background

  • Self-esteem

AWARENESS

  • Pay attention to your physical space
  • Notice how others react to you
  • Think about your words
  • Be conscious of feelings/personal topics
