WHAT IS IT?

  • When your baby is positioned to come out feet first or bottom first
  • Can tell how baby is positioned by third trimester
  • Other exams like internal or pelvic may be done to test for positioning

WHAT IF MY BABY IS BREECHED?

  • ECV: External Cephalic Version
  • The procedure in which pressure is applied to the abdomen to manipulate the baby to clip

STATISTIC ON BREECH BIRTH

  • 97% of babies are flipped by 36 weeks
  • Nearly a quarter of all babies are breeched in the first trimester

DOWNSIDES OF ECV

  • It works 58% of the time
  • Babies may flip back to being breeched after procedure
  • Doesn't work if you have triplets
  • Doesn't work if you've had more thsn one previous c-section

BIRTH

  • If you have twins, and one is not breeched, you'll still have the delivery
  • If you're already in labor when you arrive at the hospital, you'll have the delivery
  • C-Section is the safest and most common way to have the baby when breeched
