  • Bromine is a liquid at room temp
  • Non metallic
  • Its intense smell will stand out
  • Probably will not be affected

USES

  • Flame retardent
  • Drilling
  • Pesticide chemicals
  • Purification of water

TEMPETURE CHANGES

  • Bromine boils at 58.8°C (137.8°F)
  • Bromine freezes at -7.3°C (18.9°F)
  • Bromine dissolves easy in organic liquids
  • Bromine is a deep reddish at room temp

REACTIVITY

  • Bromine reacts vigourously with certain metals
  • Potassium- explosive
  • Usually unreactive platinum and pallidium
  • More reactive than iodine less than chlorine
  • Electrical conductivity- 1.0 x 10-10 S m-1w

GATHERING BROMINE

  • First used by lowig and ballard
  • Chlorine + seawater
  • Seawater has potassium/sodium bromide
  • Chlorine replaces the bromine
