project overview

  • Circa 2 acre site in the City of london
  • Comprises two new buildings totalling 500,000 sq ft of commercial property
  • 1 LWP is 12 storey building with various floor sizes
  • 2 LWP is an 18 storey tower providing 12,000 sq ft per floor
  • Heritage structures form the centrepiece of the public areas

fire prevention

  • Most fires on construction sites are caused by "hot works" including;
  • Grinding, welding, soldering, cutting and braising
  • All hot works must only be carried out with a daily Hot Works Permit 
  • Simple measures can be taken to prevent these fires, such as;

  • Housekeeping
  • Moving hot surfaces away from flammable sources
  • Ensuring a fire extinguisher is always to hand

accident and incident reporting

  • All accidents and injuries must be reported to your supervisor
  • Near misses should also be recorded
  • Brookfield Multiplex require notification of all accidents and injuries

  • All work at height must be planned and organised
  • Risk assessment to be carried out prior to works commencing
  • Step ladders are only to be used as a last resort
  • Hard hats must have chin straps and must be used
  • Tools are to be tethered so that they cannot fall

crane lifting operations

  • Slingers and Signallers must wear orange hi-viz and hard hat
  • Signallers must ensure they are familiar with the RAMS of the lift
  • Continuous instruction must be given to crane driver by signaller
  • DO NOT distract the signaller during lifting operations

  • A yellow and red card system is in place on this site
  • Yellow: Breach of site rules or failure to comply with RAMS
  • Red: Serious breaches or gross misconduct
  • Re-induction is given to operative and supervisor for yellow card

environmental protection

  • Must prevent pollution to water, land or air through spills or fumes
  • Nothing put down drains
  • Always use a funnel when pouring fuels/chemicals
  • Always re-fuel over a drip tray
  • Spills must be absorbed using a spill kit immediately

  • STOP the leak at source
  • DIVERT or block the spills away from drains
  • CONTAIN as far as possible
  • REPORT the spillage to your supervisor
