In 1896, It was decided that communities would be 'Separate But Equal' meaning white and black facilities would serve the same purpose, but be divided by race
The NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) fought back for equal educational opportunity
This led to a debate in the Supreme Court, on whether or not to continue with segregation
Brown vs. Board may have ended separate but equal but there was still lots of work to be done, non whites were still heavily discriminated in schools.
White people were still very racists against non whites being in schools and public places. There was still lots of controversy and protest about these issues.
All though there were many negative impacts to this there were also positive ones, this movement inspired more non whites to take a stand like Martin Luther King Jr.
On May 17, 1954 the Supreme Court Of Justice ruled that 'Separate but Equal' is unconstitutional to the 14th amendment. Not only did Brown v.s. Board end segregation in schools, it sparked the civil rights movement.
