About 144 million years ago during the Cretaceous Period, great marine reptiles (relatives of the dinosaurs) made this area their home. Their fossils can be found in the rocks. millions of years layers of mud and silt collected on the bottom of the canyon, making Bryce Canyon what it is today.

Bryce Canyon used to be an ocean with sea life. It is now a canyon.

Bryce Canyon was created by a Divergent Boundary.

Cliff erosion is a natural hazard that effects Bryce Canyon.

The plates below Bryce Canyon are still moving today, but very slowly.

Bryce Canyon’s rocks are among the youngest of those on the Colorado Plateau, dating back a mere 65 million years ago.

Bryce Canyon is named after Ebenezer Bryce, who started ranching the area in 1875.
