IOWA WEATHER

• Farmers dug tunnels to the barn in the snow
• There was so much snow snowplows couldn't
• Plow snow
• The summer were scorching hot in Iowa

MOVIES

• Had opera houses before movies
• After WW1 motion pictures became popular
• Back then people played pianos during the
• Movies because they had no sound

GRANT WOOD

• He made a painting called American Gothic
• It made Grant Wood famous
• Born in 1891
• One of his better painting is called Dinners for Threshers
• From Cedar Rapids

RADIO

• Also became popular after the war
• They used them to send telegraph
• The first station for radios was WSU1

TRANSPORTATION CHANGES

• After WW1 railroads become less popular
• Because automobile were up and coming
• They didn't use train because it was easier to drive
• People in the train business didn't get money

FLYING

• A hot air balloon flew over Paris,France
• In the Iowa State Fair ,Hercules a balloon rose into the air
• The Right made the first plane in 1903 in North Carolina
• The Post Office wanted plane to deliver mail

KU KLUX KLAN

• It made it so blacks can't vote in elections
• Started in southern states
• They disliked jews and immigrants
• Tried to make people against catholics
• Burned crosses ,No one knows any members

PROHIBITION

• In 1919 Passed a saying buying and making
• Liquor was illegal
• The people didn't like the law
• People who sold alcohol were bootleggers
• In 1933 a law a state could have alcohol if they wanted

THE WAR BEGINS

• Adolph Hitler rose to power in 1933
• He made Germany strong again
• In 1939 Germany attacked Poland
• That started WW2
• Germany's ally Japan attacked pearl harbor

WAR BEGINS

• About 283,000 Iowans fought in the war
• The food they ate were meat,sugar,and coffee
• The family in waterloo lost five sons
• America made an atomic bomb thoughtout
• The war it was called manhattan project
