EXPOSITION

  • Bud Caldwell is an orphan, who lives in Flint, Michigan.

PROTAGONIST AND ANTAGONIST

  • The protagonist is Bud (not buddy) Caldwell.
  • Antagonist- Herman .E. Calloway (band leader) and the Amoses

RISING ACTION

  • The rising action is when Bud is sent to go to the next home "The Amoses" and gets picked on by Todd the Amoses only boy. Todd beats up Bud and he gets yelled for everything. Bud gets locked in the shed, then runs away to find his dad Herman .E. Calloway.

FALLING ACTION

  • Miss. Thomas, Mr. Jimmy and the rest of the band ask him to help them out by doing chores. Bud showed Herman .E. Calloway his rocks and Herman got mad and left.

CLIMAX

  • The climax occurs when Bud tells the band members his mother’s name and the band members and Mr. Calloway now know that she was Mr. Calloway’s daughter and Bud is his grandson.

RESOLUTION

  • The resolution is that they figure out that Herman .E. Calloway wasn't his dad but his grandfather and no doubt he was.

CONFLICT

  • There is a boy named Bud Caldwell and his mom Died when he was six, and his dad left. Bud is an orphan and was put into three different homes.

PERSON .VS.

  • Person .VS. Person is an example of when Todd and Bud were fighting, and he knew that he was not going to win.
  • An example of Person .VS. Self is when Bud think Lefty Lewis is a vampire.

  • An example of Person .VS. Society is when they always had one white man in the group because the black people couldn't own stuff.
  • An example of Person .VS. Nature is when Bud was in the Amos shed and the hornets attack him.

THEME OF THE STORY

  • There are many themes to the story "Bud not Buddy", one theme of the story is When God closes one door, he always opens another.
  • The first theme is when God closes one door, he always opens another. Bud learns this every time something eventful happens in his life and is followed by another path that leads him to what seems to be his destiny.

POINT OF VIEW

  • The point of view is first person, and it is coming from Bud Caldwell because of the result that he uses I, me,my etc.

THE MOOD

  • The mood is at times are hard and even dark, but for the most part is continuously hopeful and inspiriting. A result of a young boy like Bud who won’t allow society, adults, or even kids his own age to hold him back from achieving his goal.
