PRESENTATION OUTLINE

DOCTINE

  • The teachings on the Four Noble Truths are regarded as central to the teachings of Buddhism, and are said to provide a conceptual framework for Buddhist thought. These four truths explain the nature of dukkha (suffering, anxiety, unsatisfactoriness), its causes, and how it can be overcome.

PROPHET

  • The Buddha is also regarded as a prophet by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community and a Manifestation of God in the Bahá'í faith.

FOUNDATION

  • The goal of the Buddhist Foundation Diamond Way is to make the millennium-old Buddhist wisdom accessible to the people of the modern world, and to preserve the tradition of the Diamond Way, which is threatened in the East, for future generations.

HISTORY

  • The origin of Buddhism points to one man, Siddhartha Gautama, the historical Buddha, who was born in Lumbini (in present-day Nepal) during the 5th century BCE.

SECTS

  • In this section we'll contrast the three dominant strains of Buddhism: Theravada, Mahayana, and Vajrayana, along with a fourth-Zen Buddhism-that grew out of Mahayana and has gained increasing popularity in the West.
