I liked the acting from Helena. She did a great job when she acted very much like a desperate dog. The tone of her voice and her body language helped show how desperate she was for Demetrius
I disliked the set that the actors performed on. There were only 2 different backgrounds, and the city background was 2 dimensional and flat. The scene lacked depth.
I liked the actor who played the role of Bottom. He was able to recite different lines with different voices. He was energetic, and the donkey mask fit him well. He also sounded much like an ass, making him a perfect fit to play the role of Bottom, when his head turns into that of an ass.
The costumes on the teenagers looked nothing like the clothes people would have worn in Shakespearian days. People high in the society wore formal clothes and covered up well.
Helena wore short-shorts and a tank-top in the play, making it seem more like MSND was taking place in the 21st century.
I liked the actor who played the role of Thisbe (when the clowns performed their play). He did a good job of sounding and acting like a girl. He had the guts to wear a dress, wear a wig, and had the guts to wear a bra.
Because of his courage, the play was very funny, much thanks to him.
I disliked the fact that in the play Lysander and Demetrius slept in the same area. In Shakespeare's version of the play, Puck leads Demetrius and Lysander to two different
areas [so that they would fall asleep and not fight],but in the play, they are led and they sleep in the same place. They should have slept opposite of eachother. This made the play worse because it does not make sense that they cannot find each other despite the fact that they are only a few feet apart.
I liked how the clowns acted very stupid and retarded during the play Pyramus and Thisbe. Many actors do not have the guts to act like retards, but the actors in the Burlington MSND had the guts to do so. Pyramus and Thisbe tried to lick each other through the hole in the wall, and the lion roared a wimpy roar causing Thisbe to run away in a stupid, cowardly manner. The clown who said the prologue kept stumbling on lines, making it seem like he was making a point opposite of what he itended to say. This made the Pyramus and Thisbe play fun to watch.
During the play, the acting from the fairies was stiff when Oberon and Titania were talking to each other.
They were in the background standing as stiff as statues, making the play seem more like it was made by a group of amateurs. If they were moving around in the background, the scene would have been much better.
