PRESENTATION OUTLINE
IN THE BOOK OF JAMES HE GIVES US MANY EXAMPLES ON WAYS TO GAIN WISDOM. I WILL TALK ABOUT SIX THINGS HIDDEN IN THE BOOK OF JAMES ABOUT THE RICH, THOSE WHO ARE OBEDIENT, PATIENCE IN SUFFERING, AND PRAYER.
1) THE RICH WILL HAVE MISERY COME UPON THEM.
James 5:1-3 "Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you. 2 Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. 3 Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire."
Everything that the rich valued in their wealthy days will be gone just like that. God doesn't value how much you have, but where your heart is with him.
2) WE WILL BE JUDGED
JAMES 5:8-9 "You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near. 9 Don’t grumble against one another, brothers and sisters, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door!"
BLESSINGS COME WITH PATIENCE. WE ARE TO TO BE PATIENT WITH EACH OTHER OR WE SHALL BE JUDGED UNTIL THE LORD COMES.
3)PRAY PRAY PRAY
JAMES 5:13-14 "Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord."
We are told to pray in the worst times and in the best times. The elders are to pray for the sick and praise with the happy.
4) THE TOUNGE CAN BE DECEIVING
JAMES 3:6 "6 The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one's life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell."
Our tongue can bring joy into the world or evil. We are told that it's a small but big part of the body.
5) JEALOUSY IS A SIN
JAMES 2:9 "9 But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as lawbreakers."
Often we treat those who look nicer or have nicer things better than others. We start to show favoritism. We were all created equal in God's image, therefore there is no need for jealously or favoritism.
