ABOUT POST

  • He was an American breakfast cereal and foods manufacturer and inventor.
  • He was born October 26, 1854, in Springfield, Illinois.
  • His name is Charles William Post

POST'S COMPANY

  • Post started his company Postum Cereal Co. with his first product, the Postum cereal beverage.
  • He started his company in Battle Creek, Michigan

POST'S 1ST CEREAL

  • His created his first breakfast cereal in 1897. He named it Grape-Nuts cereal because of the fruity aroma and the nutty crunch of the finished product.

POST'S 2ND CEREAL

  • He followed up his cereal Grape-Nuts with a brand of corn flakes in 1904.
  • The corn flakes were called Elijah's Manna before they were renamed Post Toasties in 1908.

THE RELAUNCH

  • Post relaunched the Instant Postum cereal beverage in 1912 using marketing techniques such as recipe books, free samples, and coupons.

POST'S DEATH

  • In 1914, Post was believed to have suffered from appendicitis. After prominent surgeons told him that he was inoperable he took matters into his own hands and committed suicide at the age of 59 that same year.

HIS COMPANY AFTERWARDS

  • After his death his daughter took over the business. She expanded Post's holdings to obtain products like Jell-O and Hellman's Mayonnaise.
  • His company acquired a dozen companies and has expanded its product line to over 60 products.
  • The company has been renamed General Foods Corporation.
