2-YEAR

COLLEGE TECH PREP PROGRAM
Parents: This course is not like the "vocational" courses we were around while we were in high school.

CADD is a 2-year college tech prep program - beginning in the Junior year of high school - meaning it has a coordinated curriculum that gives students a path to college studies or entry-level positions upon graduating from the program. Students can earn up to 13 semester hours of college credit for the 2-year course.

We have four CADD students here today - Samantha, Vince, Ben and Brad, and they will present more information on the program and careers in engineering and architecture.

First up is Samantha - she is a Junior at Mayfield; her interest is in Mechanical Engineering.

SAMANTHA

JUNIOR/INTEREST: MECHANICAL ENGINEERING
My favorite parts of our CADD class have been the hands-on activities, such as the K'nex bridge projects, and the 2-D and 3-D drawings created with AutoCAD.

EVERYWHERE

ENGINEERING IS
From the start to the end of each day, engineering improves the ways that we communicate, work, travel, stay healthy, and entertain ourselves

WHAT IS

CADD ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY?
Engineering: We apply science and math to solve problems

+

We use Computer-aided Design and Drafting (CADD), which is the use of computer technology to aid in the design and drafting of a part, product or buildings.

ENGINEERS

Engineers develop economical and safe solutions to problems by applying mathematics and science.

ARCHITECTS

Architects - An Architect is the licensed leader of a team of designers in planning and designing buildings.

PROBLEM-SOLVERS

ENGINEERS AND ARCHITECTS ARE
Engineers and Architects are problem solvers who want to make things work better.

Up next is Vince, who is a Junior at Mayfield and his interest is in Civil Engineering.

VINCE

JUNIOR/INTEREST: CIVIL ENGINEERING
My favorite part of the class is working with the AutoCAD program and producing drawings and models on the computer.

QUESTIONS?

Some responses to questions asked during the sessions:

A total of 18 spots maximum in the incoming Junior class.

Students ride busses from their home school to Excel TECC, and then ride a bus from Excel TECC to Lakeland.

We report grades based on the earliest of the 9 schools in the consortium, and the CADD grades will appear on the home schools' report cards.
