THE HISTORY OF CAFFEINE

  • Coffea arabica originates from Ethiopia.
  • Humans have consumed caffeine since the Stone Age.
  • Caffeine is found in the beans, leaves, and fruit of over 60 plants.
  • There are three types of caffeine : mateine, guaranine, and theine.
  • Caffeine is a xanthine alkaloid compound that acts as a stimulant in humans.

  • Early peoples chewed the seeds, bark, or leaves of certain plants.
  • They had the effects of easing fatigue and stimulating both awareness and mood.
  • Studies show the discovery of such plants living thousands of years ago.
