  • Born in 1509 in France
  • Law student
  • 1536 published Institutes of Christian Religion
  • Lived in Geneva, soon ruled there
  • poltical and spiritual leader

JOHN CALVIN CONT.

  • Known for intellectual, non emotional belief
  • Ruled Geneva strictly
  • Created a "perfect utopia" for Calvinism
  • Died in 1564

HISTORY OF CALVINISM

  • John Calvin started the church in Geneva
  • Theocracy under Calvin, the people lived a strict life
  • Code effectively controlled people's lives
  • This lasted for about 5 years under strict rule
