Can cell phone jammer be used in the classroom? Have any schools purchased jammers?

Published on May 28, 2022

Cell phones in the classroom have been the cause of much debate among teachers, parents and school administrators. On the one hand, cell phones can be disruptive in the classroom, but on the other hand, they are also an opportunity for parents to stay in touch with their children - especially in the event of an emergency. Educators have been experimenting with different ways to maximize the potential benefits of cell phones while minimizing the disruptions they can cause. One example is the use of apps that allow students to take pictures of their schoolwork as a way to keep track of assignments without having to carry around multiple notebooks and textbooks. But what about when these apps become a distraction for students who want to chat or play games? Recently, a device known as a "cell phone jammer" has become increasingly popular, blocking mobile signals and making devices unusable in schools or classrooms - a technology originally used by military personnel, but now it is also available commercially (and growing in popularity).

There is a device that schools can use to disable cell phones in the classroom.

Many schools have purchased cell phone jammer in an effort to eliminate cell phone interference in the classroom. These devices are not illegal and do not violate FCC rules.

The only requirement is to notify the FCC of their use. jammers work by sending out a high frequency signal that blocks all signals within their radius, including wireless networks and Bluetooth devices. This means that if you want to use your laptop or tablet in class, it will need to be plugged into an Ethernet cable so that it can connect to the school's wireless network, rather than using your home Wi-Fi or hotspot (which are blocked by the jammer).

The device does not violate FCC rules, but it will need to notify the FCC of its use.

As you may have guessed, it is not illegal to use a cell phone jammer at school. The device does not violate FCC rules, but the FCC needs to be notified of its use.

In addition to being legal in schools, it is also legal to use high Power Jammer in private spaces like your office or home if you have permission from the owner. In fact, many people use them at home because they want to get away from distractions and focus on their work.

How effective are they? Not very effective. In fact, most districts report that once the jammers in the room are activated, they can't even detect if students are using their phones. This is because cell phones can still get service outside of their range and continue to be used in the building, even if they are blocked from the classroom where you have set up the jammer.

The cost of these devices depends on the type of device you purchase; however, they are not cheap! They cost between $500-$1. They cost between $500-$1,000, depending on the manufacturer and features (such as signal detection).

Cell phones can be distracting in the classroom, but some educators also believe they can be a very effective teaching tool.

Teachers often feel that students are distracted by cell phones in class, and for good reason: Studies show that students who use cell phones during lectures or activities tend to perform worse on tests than students who don't use them. But some teachers have found that using cell phones as part of an educational activity helps engage students and increases participation in class discussions. For example, one teacher at Princeton University uses texting as an alternative to raising hands to ask questions about reading assignments (a practice that often leads to talking over each other). He also makes his phone number publicly available for students who need extra help after hours or outside of scheduled office hours.

The use of 5G signal jammer in classrooms is legal as long as the device is not used to break the law. The FCC says, "The purpose of prohibiting the use of such devices is to ensure that no unauthorized person has access to an unauthorized radio transmitter." This means that if you use a cell phone jammer, its purpose must be to prevent someone from using a cell phone illegally - whether it's texting during class, or taking unauthorized photos or videos.
