Canavan Disease

  • history of the Canavan disease
  • Named after Mrytle Canavan
  • best known for the best description of the canavan disease
  • also the first female pathologists
  • in 1933 Dr. Rueban discovered the gene that causes the disease in tissue

  • they have recently concluded that the Canavan disease acts as a sheath that forms around each nerve cell
  • making clear transmission for nerve impulses

Facts

  • Canavan as most deaths occur before the age of 4 some them have very slim odds of making it into their teens
  • most of the time the effects are brain astophy ,loss of motor function ,seizures,blindness,hearing loss, large head,abnormal muscle tone ,and poorly controlled head
  • and as in said before there is no cure for this disease

  • a birth disorder linked by a gene in which the white matter of the brain deteriates into spongy tissue
  • riddled w/ microscopic fluid filled spaces
  • basiclly a they are genetic disorders known as ''luekodystrophies''
  • causes the brain mostly atrophy
  • terminally fatal!!!!
