Hypothesis

  • Sujects would be more likely to steal in the dorms where no one is watching

  • Indipendent Variable- Location
  • Dependent Variable- Amount of candy taken

Percent of Candy Taken in Different Locations

Hypothesis-> False

  • More candy was taken in the Wise than in the dorms

THe Wise

  • Subject saw other subjects taking candy so they did as well
  • It escalated into subjects taking handfuls
  • More boys stole candy than girl

The dorms

  • MLS- subjects took one at a time and felt guilty
  • Fowler- candy not very accessible
  • Eco- A bowl was placed upside down on the candy by a Student

The Shampoo Expirment

  • Would people showering use expensive shampoo that was not theirs?
  • They compared whether there was someone there or not
  • Stole more when alone

  • People knew that it was an expirement
  • The wise was busier than some dorms
  • Different people hang out in dorms that in the Wise

  • Our data showed:
  • Theft can often happen in groups
  • The power of peer influence
